Quem Paga Imposto no Reino Unido?

According to Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC), there are roughly 327,000 people who earn more than £150,000 per year - the rate at which the 50p tax is currently charged. By this fiscal year, the richest 327,000 are predicted by HMRC to pay 26.7 per cent of the total tax collected in the country. Nevertheless, a request filed by the Evening Standard under the Freedom of Information Act in 2007 revealed that in 2004-5 only 65 of the roughly 400 UK-based individuals who earn £10m per year or more actually paid income tax, which was estimated to lose HMRC up to £2bn in revenues.

Bem...lá como cá existe a elisão fiscal e existe a evasão fiscal, esta última ilegal, mas não a primeira. Convenhamos, quem ganha mais de £10 milhões por ano tem grana de sobra para contratar advogados tributaristas e contadores para, aproveitando as brechas da lei, pagar menos imposto. É o que faz, por exemplo, uma parte dos congêneres tupinambás. Na Inglaterra a delinqüência fiscal é levada a sério e exemplarmente punida, o que não é bem o caso destes tristes trópicos. Mesmo assim, certamente uma parte dos milionários ingleses deixa de pagar imposto de renda de forma ilegal, mas a maioria se vale da elisão.
