The Economist Critica Chávez

A revista The Economist ajudou a construir a mentira deslavada de que Lula era um bom governante e administrador e, como consequência, perdeu toda a reputação que tinha. Ela parece estar tentando recuperar o terreno perdido. Finalmente conseguiu publicar um artigo bom, que fala a verdade - não sobre Lula – mas sobre Chávez, exatamente um dos precursores do socialismo que infestou a América latina na última década da qual Lula se tornou a mais famosa expressão: Mr Chávez had the immense good fortune to come to power just as an unprecedented commodity boom was about to get under way. As the oil price soared the dollars rolled in, without the Bolivarian revolution having to work for them. Mr Chávez used this windfall to buy himself popular support, with social programmes and handouts. The oil-fuelled bounty seemed to vindicate his claim that before his advent, Venezuelans had been impoverished by “neo-liberalism”.
