Finalmente uma resposta sensata, dada por Steven Bayme, para a critica de Walt e Mearsheimer "The Israel Lobby," London Review of Books, 23 March 2006, 1-27, de que o "Israel lobby" manipula a politica externa Americana e a mantem refem dos interesses de Israel: "In the face of assaults such as Walt and Mearsheimer's, therefore, the Jewish community cannot have it both ways. It cannot simultaneously claim power and influence yet wave a banner of powerlessness in the face of external critics. Instead it needs continuously to engage the ongoing battle of ideas; assert the right of minorities to attempt to influence policy; and acknowledge that, while success may well foster resentment, the sympathy engendered by powerlessness hardly is worth the cost".
